Passionately Pink Healthy Home Party

Santee Stroller Strides recently partnered with Haute Mommy blogger (who is also a Santee Stroller Strides and Luna Moms Club member) to host a Healthy Homes party. We added the Passionately Pink element to include breast cancer awareness for the month of October. An organization called Healthy Child Healthy World offers the healthy home party kit on their website for a small donation. This organization is looking for people to host the parties and spread the word about toxins in the home. We decided to just that and invited Luna Moms Club members to join our efforts. Our Passionately Pink Healthy Home Party was a fundraiser for Healthy Child Healthy World and served as our monthly Mom's Night Out. We had so many prizes to giveaway, some came with the party kit and the rest were collected by myself and Haute Mommy. Here are some of the prizes that were given away: Happy Baby Organic guide, Klean Kanteen water bottles, Plum baby food, Revolution sampler, Episencial gift basket, Yes to Carrots bubble bath, and much more!
The party guests were required to purchase a ticket in order to be entered into the raffle and we raised  $100 to donate to Healthy Child Healthy World. The party guests were informed of the "5 Easy Steps" they could take to avoid toxins and make their home safer for baby. We then heard from our guest speaker Kristine Valenzuela who writes a column on San Diego Bargain Mama's website. She was also recently featured on NBC discussing organic food and CSA programs.

Afterward I demonstrated how easy it is to make your own cleaner by using the following recipe:
Multi-Purpose Cleaner
2 liters Water
1/2 Cup White Vinegar
2 tbsp Borax

This is not only a great non-toxic cleaner to use on all surfaces, it is very inexpensive to make! I have a large bottle of vinegar and box of Borax that will last me at least six months. After the cleaner was made, we raffled off the prizes. So many great prizes went home with all the moms! I made special mention about the use of organic tampons because it was a product I had not event considered to be dangerous before I started researching information for the party. I was so used to grabbing my preferred brand off the shelf that I hadn't even noticed that Target carries Seventh Generation organic cotton tampons that are chlorine-free. I wanted to make sure the other moms were made aware of the amount of chemicals that could be getting into our systems through that route :)
All and all, it was a successful Mom's Night Out/Healthy Home Party. Each mom got to enjoy a night out and took home some great knowledge & awesome prizes!
